Gooseberries are from the same botanical family as currants and whilst mostly cultivated in Europe also grow wild and prolific in North America. They’re known for their tart crunch, which have made them a favored ingredient in deserts and jams. Yet, they are also one of the healthiest berries you can come across. High in fiber, vitamin C and A, they are notoriously low in calories. Also present in the berries are bioactive compounds such as flavones and anthocyanins, which are known to have numerous health promoting qualities.
